Irrational Statements
On this page, I intend to present some of the irrational statements made by people and, at the same time, analyze or point out why they are illogical.
Statement #1: No one is above the law
My comments: The illogicality of this statement is realized when one considers the reality of life. In every society, there are powerful individuals who are not indicted for their wrongs deeds, needless to mention their being prosecuted for those deeds. It could either be because of their status or connections in society — political, social, economic, cultural, religious and so forth. Indeed, experience has shown that there are individuals who are above the law, or at least treated so.
Besides, in some countries (and there is a lot of them), there are clear constitutional provisions which forbid the prosecution of certain political leaders for crimes they commit while occupying specific positions, crimes for which they would normally be prosecuted if they didn’t occupy those positions. If this is not placing an individual above the law, then I don’t know what it is.
In my view, instead of saying “No one is above the law,” one ought to say “No one should be above the law.”
